Welcome back to school everyone! The first week of school has been wonderful! I hope everyone had an absolutely amazing summer filled with lots of fun and relaxation. I really like the small class size . We have "Meet the Teacher" tonight from 6-7:30 p.m. I'm looking forward to seeing the parents tonight. Please stop in Room 5 to pick up an informational letter about classroom policies and information about the AR/Independent Reading program for sixth grade. I hope you noticed the the new Social Studies books sixth graders will be using this year to study.
We will not be having special classes until after the Labor Day weekend and when we do have gym, the students may wear their gym clothes to school on gym day. We will also have a more permanant shedule at that time.
Remember to have a great time at the festival this weekend.

Camp Trip
We had a lot of fun at camp. The food was good The weather was beautiful, sunny, and windy!
The fifth grade students were absolutely thrilled with the zip line. They want to go back as sixth graders so they may use the high rope challenge course. It's only 40 feet off the ground, you know what's a little height? The students were very well behaved showing their enthusiasm for everything that was planned. I had a great time with the kids in the outdoor setting. It's fun to watch them outside the classroom. I believe we were all happy campers on this trip.

AR Book/Book Reports
February 8,2010
AR Books/Reports
Your student brought home an informational sheet at the beginning of the 3rd marking period detailing the changes in the required AR books/book reports. If you haven't read it yet, ask him/her about it. To catch you up on this change, students are now required to read three books per marking period. One must be an AR book, one must be a book report on a book of their choice approved by me, and the third is their choice after checking the book with me. The approximate due dates of the books are posted in the classroom by the AR sheets.
Your student is also reading a book for African -American History Month in February. This report is due when they come back from their winter break on Tuesda, February 16th.
